Sources of guidance

Energy Efficiency Measures in Older and Traditional Buildings Cadw’s guidance publication covers the things which need to be considered when fitting energy efficiency measures to older and traditional buildings. It is aimed primarily – but not exclusively – at learners undertaking the Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings.

Energy Efficiency and Retrofit in Historic Buildings , Historic England has a range of different resources covering topics such as modifying doors and windows and installing heat pumps.

Saving Energy in Traditional Buildings, Historic Environment Scotland has a series of guidance notes including things such as draft proofing your property and how to reduce heat loss through sash windows.

Retrofit of Traditional Buildings: What to Consider When Planning for the Future, the Department for Communities Northern Ireland has produced this guidance which explains how to approach the retrofit of traditional historic buildings, and what should be considered in balance with the need to make buildings more efficient and comfortable.
