Our Experience
Buttress is 45-person strong practice, with a single office in central Manchester. We are currently one of the country’s top 100 architecture practices by size, with one of the largest non-multidisciplinary architectural offices in the North.
Buttress has provided architectural, conservation and heritage services to the heritage sector for 30 years. During this time, we have worked with some of the country’s most significant historic buildings and heritage sites, delivering restoration, conservation and redevelopment projects.
The range of architectural services we provide to the heritage sector is broad and includes: condition surveys, feasibility studies and options, grant funding support and conservation expertise. Alongside architectural services, we also have an in-house Heritage Consultant who works directly with clients to help make effective and informed choices about their heritage assets by undertaking historical research and analysis and preparing heritage statements in accordance with planning policy and Historic England guidance.
Buttress is committed to bringing historic buildings back into sustainable, viable uses. While conservation best practice is deeply rooted in the approach, we work hard to find creative and pragmatic solutions that breathe new life into these buildings, and continue working with clients to ensure that they are maintained for the future.
